How to Create a Low Maintenance Yard

How to Create a Low Maintenance Yard

It’s time to spend less time taking care of your yard and more time relaxing in it!

Some people love the backbreaking business of tending to their lawn and garden. Then there are the rest of us—who would rather relax and let that little piece of heaven largely take care of itself. Even if you love gardening, there are always those times when you just want to relax and not worry about the weeds or how tall the grass has grown.

So without further ado, here are a few simple things you can do to create a low maintenance yard:

Plant Perennials and Native Species

For low maintenance plants, opt for perennials. You plant them once, and they come back year after year! Choose native species and they’ll require even less upkeep and keep water prices and pruning time down. There are hundreds of choices, from groundcovers to trees—more than enough variety to create exactly the atmosphere you want. And they are all low maintenance by nature.

Implement Hardscaping

Less lawn equals less work. That’s the best argument for hardscaping, which is the use of pavers, brick, or decorative stone. Whether you opt for a patio or lay garden paths, you’ll have a durable surface that never needs weeding or watering—just the occasional sweeping and hosing off. Options abound, from neat grids to a patchwork effect, so a great no-fuss look is just a stone’s throw away.

Install Artificial Grass

A natural lawn grass is your worst enemy when it comes to maintenance time and expense, not to mention water wastage. This is why replacing your lawn with artificial grass is a top priority when creating a low maintenance yard. Artificial grass doesn’t need to be mowed, watered, or fertilized, and pests and pets can’t destroy it. Simply put, artificial grass is what low maintenance yard dreams are made of.

Once you replace your natural grass lawn with artificial grass, you can start thinking of maintenance reduction as a goal, and work toward that transformation incrementally. Pavers with artificial grass here, a few perennials there, and before you know it your yard will be a showcase of low maintenance loveliness. You’ll look back and wonder why you didn’t do this sooner.

Here’s to less work and more play in your yard! Contact Turfix today to take the first step towards creating a beautiful, lush, low maintenance yard!
