Laying the Groundwork for Player Safety
It’s been more than 50 years since the first turf field was laid and artificial turf has evolved exponentially ever since. Not only does artificial turf look and feel even more like natural grass than ever before, but health and safety experts have also given artificial turf high marks for player safety.
An increasing demand for high quality playing surfaces has inspired significant advancements in the field to dramatically improve player performance and safety. Recognized organizations, such as FIFA, the NCAA, and others put these advancements to the test and have released recent studies measuring the injury risk on synthetic turf compared to natural grass. Researchers indicated time and time again that the injury risk of playing on synthetic turf is no greater, and in some cases even lower, than on natural grass.
Turfix synthetic sports turf fields are designed with the safety of the athlete in the foreground. We work hard to meet high standards for traction, rotation, slip resistance, surface abrasion, and stability so your players can stay safe and perform at their best.
Beyond the basic and necessary safety precautions, here are four more ways Turfix goes above and beyond to keep your players safe:
Infill Inspection
Artificial turf surfaces contain crumb rubber, which are tiny black crumbs made from pulverized car tires. This resilient rubber infill adds bounce and cushioning for athletes, which help prevent serious injuries. At Turfix, we keep a close eye on your infill and perform decompaction, grooming, and replenishment services to keep your Turfix artificial turf field’s infill evenly distributed and at the proper levels for player safety and performance.
G-Max Safety Testing
When a player falls, the impact is absorbed either by the playing surface or the player. And when the surface is hard, there’s a greater likelihood of injury. At Turfix, we perform G-Max safety testing using ASTM standards to prevent concussions and other injuries. G-Max safety testing measures the shock-attenuation performance of your synthetic turf field. Fields that are too hard pose a risk to player safety, while fields that are too soft contribute to excessive fatigue and poor player performance. G-Max test results help field owners to determine what actions, if any, should be taken to keep players safe.
Magnetic Sweeping
It’s incredible how much metal can accumulate and become buried in artificial turf from track spikes to earrings. At Turfix, we can make a field much safer by floating a very strong magnet over the artificial turf surface to remove potentially dangerous materials. Synthetic field magnetic sweeping removes any debris from the field to increase player safety and is included in our service at no additional charge.
Artificial Turf Field Sanitizing
Synthetic turf fields don’t just collect materials like track spikes and earring, which can be removed with turf sweepers and magnets. Artificial turf fields also collect all the blood, sweat, and tears your players leave behind when they are busy leaving it all out on the field. Turfix provides field sanitization to disinfect your field and safeguard your players against infectious bacteria and keep them healthy.
